Where another world begins

For some it already feels familiar. For others it is still waiting to be discovered.

Our story

From Solabacke to Solportalen

Solabacke was a familiar place to many people in Uppsala for many years. Today the story continues under new management as Solportalen.

We carry respect for what came before, while Solportalen has its own identity, its own vision and its own direction for light, warmth and recovery.

Those who know, know.

The sun travels along the road towards a distant portal at dusk.
The sun character stands in front of a mountain gate at golden sunset.
The sun has passed through the portal and flies onward away from it.

The journey continues.

Our identity

Between worlds

Solportalen is more than the name of a place. It is a symbol of the passage from everyday noise into light, warmth and a different feeling. Here, inspiration from different parts of the world meets in a setting where you can, for a moment, step out of the ordinary.

A portal does not need to carry you far. Sometimes it is enough that it changes the pace, the atmosphere and how the moment feels.

For us, the portal carries three meanings: the possibility to travel somewhere else without leaving the city, the sun that moves across the sky and gives light and warmth, and the inner sun – the light and warmth we carry within us.

A place with more stories

Kungsgatan 79 – a house with history and soul

Long before Solportalen opened its doors, the house at Kungsgatan 79 was part of the industrial history of Uppsala. First it housed Upsala Margarinfabrik and later Sonjas karamell- och chokladfabrik.

The factory produced chocolate, toffee, marmalade, confectionery and liquorice, among other things. The business had around 50 employees and became an important part of the story of the place.

The name Sonja still remains on the facade, a reminder of what once was here.

Today the building has taken on new expressions and businesses. Here you find Solportalen with a setting for light, warmth and recovery, together with other actors within tattooing and beauty. At the same time the house continues to carry a piece of Uppsala's history.

Kungsgatan 79 is therefore more than just an address. It is a place that has changed with time yet still carries stories, memories and soul.
